93 240 wagon fixed odometer gear now speedometer does not read above 40 mph - help! 200 1993

I ordered a replacement gear to fix the odometer which had not been working for some time on our standard shift 1993 240 wagon. Watching and following the ipd video, we replaced the gear last night. Now the odometer and trip meter are working - BUT - the speedometer, which had no problems prior, is now only working through 40 mph! What did we do wrong? The speedometer works consistently under 40, while shifting from 1st through 3rd gears it moves up and down reliably and smoothly, then it stops and stays at 40 at all highway speeds. Once the car slows back down below 40 it will then kick in and descend appropriately. The other interesting fact as that at rest, the needle is no longer at zero, it stays at 5 mph.

The only thing we did differently from the Utube video was to blow compressed air around the area of the odometer gears and into the assembly before we put the cluster back together (as suggested by another gear vendor's website to dislodge any broken gear particles that could bind the new one up). If we blew something loose or broke something, why does the speedometer work fine below 40? Are there 2 components to the speedometer - one for lower speeds and one for higher that we did something to?

If we take the cluster back out we are not sure what to look for to fix this new problem. We thought we were being so careful. Rats, now I think the new problem is worse than the lack of an odometer. Is anyone able to give us suggestions of what to do now if we take the cluster back out again? I also can't seem to find out which of the wires is for the speedometer when we hooked the cluster back up in the car. When we initially took the cluster out and took note of the connections, there was a round donut shaped attachment set of wires and a half round attachment set on the right back side when looking at the front of the cluster, and a central 'L' shaped attachment wire cluster in the middle of the unit, and then a spade type wire attached on the left side, which was the hardest to disconnect originally. There is no tach on the cluster. And the car has no cruise control. We thought we put everything back as it was found. But we obviously did something wrong!

Thank you very much for any help you may have!
