Was adding some DRLs and doing some maintenance on my K&N filter and decided to paint the charcoal canister while I had the grill off. When I removed the foam from the bottom of the canister, there were a bunch of charcoal granules on top of it. I assume that whatever screening was inside to retain them had deteriorated, so I simply turned the thing upside down and let them flow back through the perforations in the bottom plate before fitting a new piece of foam. After paining it, and it's bracket, I carefully placed some waxed paper between the two before tightening. You can't see it, but i hope it will prevent the fresh paint on the two from bonding together. Can anyone opine on the topic?
Is this thing still really doing anything? Can it be refreshed (e.g. heated in an oven) Replaced? Bypassed?
