No start/no spark Rex Regina 745 1992

My friend has a no start situation with a 1992 745 Rex Regina system. This is a car I sold him a couple of years ago, 200+K miles. I had owned it for years and it was well maintained. Late in the summer prior to a 3000 mile trip I did the timing belt and water pump for him and changed out the plugs- it had good compression. The CPS cable showed no signs of breaking down. The car ran great on the trip- decent mileage and no excessive oil consumption

The car won’t fire up on starting fluid, and he found that the coil is not providing spark. Gently moving the CPS around did not cause any response from the engine. I doubt the contacts between the coil and the module are in need of cleaning as I keep after those on these cars.

He has spare relays I gave him but to be honest I don’t remember if a fuel injection relay or a radio suppression relay malfunction can cause the system to not deliver spark. So if someone can educate me on that I would appreciate it.

Also I would like to be able to tell him how to check for power to the coil/ignition module.

He is a couple of hours away so the help I can provide is via email and phone. I am putting together a box to send on Monday that contains a ignition coil/module assembly, and a CPS. What else can I send that might be useful in swapping out parts chasing a no start situation based on no spark?

I forgot to have him verify that the cam is turning but no one would be more surprised than I would be if the timing belt has slipped or failed.

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Randy
