Diagnostic Question for Don Foster 200 1989

After reading an archive message about overheating 240's, I drove my 240 on the highway at 70mph and watched the temp gauge rise into the red(this only happens at high speeds) Then, I immediately turned the heater on, full blast, and watched the gauge dive immediately back to the center. So now I know that it's either the thermostat or the radiator. Are there any other diagnostic tricks I can attempt before replacing the thermostat or pulling out the radiator? The car has 107,000 miles and has never had the thermostat replaced.
