I was driving to work this morning, when what to my wondering ears should appear, but a horrible screaming noise, then silence...Oh Dear!
From under the hood had been such a clatter, I pulled over to side to see what was the matter.
Quickly raising the hood (in the rain), I found the AC compressor seized, oh the pain!
And not only did I lose my air conditioning, the AC pulley drives the power steering! (Sorry, I ran out of rhymes there)
So onward I drove, minus one belt, feeling quite sorry for the hand I'd been dealt.
And now my question to all Volvo gurus...can I bypass the AC with a different belt, and just run the steering? The AC is mostly useless anyway, and I won't miss it. And should such an arrangement be possible, what belt should I use? The standard belt for Volvos with no AC doesn't fit (my guess is that the pump is located differently in such a car).
So here's the vital stats: 86 volvo 244 GL, b230F, 140K, Auto.
All help appreciated!
