ECU #'s and possible interchange? 200 89

Happy new year Bricksters:

Last summer, I panicked and ordered a remanufactured ECU for my failed

0280 000 561 Bosch unit ($600,ouch). I received an ECU (Bosch#02280 000 556, replaces 0280 000 933) and immediately installed it. Car started up right off and ran OK. After a while (3 weeks, it started to stumble on takeoff and I kept getting a "check engine" light. Codes are: 3 1 1, 3 2 2, 1 1 2. After disconnecting the battery, cleaning throttle body, etc. Codes would go away for a while. Then the pattern would occur again.

I've even replaced the ICU with a known good one.

Now I've replaced this ECU with one from my wife's 89 740 (same 561 #) and the 240 runs like new again.

Now for my question: Did I get sent the wrong ECU? Possibly from a different year? I'll phone the parts people on Tues Jan 2, but if anyone has knowledge about the ECU's and the model years of 240's they fit, I'm sure a lot of us would be interested in such a list. Muchas gracias, Genaro.
