engine 120-130 65

I need some advice about a engine problem in my 122. The engine (a B-18D with 220k on the rebuild} runs fairly well but it uses a quart of oil every 700 miles. There is no visable smoke and the compression is good-140-150 for all the cylinders. The spark plugs are always black. Is it possible that it is worn valves or is the engine just worn out? I would appreciate any help you could give me.
