m46 overdrive won't engage until warm"< 200 85

I have recently bought an 85 turbo wagon with the m46 in it. When I first start out for work in the morning or come home at night the od will not engage,no light ,no anything until I have about 4 or 5 miles of highway driving on the car, then it works fine the rest of the trip. When it is warmed up it shifts in and out with no problems and the od light works fine . I live in a rural area so I don't do any around town driving until the car is already warmed up . Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start on trouble shooting the problem.
