ball joint puller necessary? 200 79

Hello,

I'll be installing new Bilsteins in my wagon in a few weeks, and in reading up in my manual, it seems I need a ball joint puller to separate the steering rod from the steering arm. Is there a Brickboarder technique to get around renting or buying one of these tools?

Also, do the strut tubes in early 240s such as mine require a Volvo spacer or similar in order to install the new 'gas-charged' inserts? I think I read about this somewhere... BTW, the Bilsteins are Sprintline models, designed for shorter coils.

Thanks.
