1988 760T Wagon question 700 1988

Hey guys and gals,

I found something I consider weird in the back of my 1988 760 Turbo Wagon in the 2 compartments next to the storage bin for the wheel there is a black box kinda looks like a speaker in each. Does anyone know what these are? Just really stumpted..
