Recently, I posted an inquiry about front brake pad replacement on the '91 740. As a result of the strong responses received, I was able to confidently purchase the correct type of pads and replace them (Beck/Arnley, Silver Supreme, semi-metallic pads). Since the replacement, and commencing about two days after the job, I began experiencing a groaning sound in the left side brake. This occurs mainly when light pressure (or a soft depressing of the pedal) is applied and seems to become increasingly more prominent in proportion to the length of the drive. Also, it seems that wet conditions aggravate the noise but there is no apparent negative effect on braking ability.

In many of the archived messages and articles, much is made of the propensity for these pads to "squeal" and there seems to be no end to the recommendations for resolving this irritating new aspect. So, here is the gist of the inquiry:

1) Is there an explanation (other than "squeal") for this

groaning sensation;

2) If so, what is the consensus on origin;

3) What is recommended course of action.
