fuel sending unit has rusted out ground connection, how to fix? 200 82

i am going to replace my in tank pump soon, and unscrewed the cap on the wagon to see how bad the rust is on the cover of the fuel sending unit. it is rusted out in places. no leaks or wholes but just rust. i also noticed that the ground conector on the top of the unit had rusted through. the wire was just hanging not connected to the top of the sending unit. any suggestions on how to make a ground connection since this one is broken. it is very brittle and i imagine the vibrations of car did it in. i noticed that there are three metal L-shaped tubes that come out from the top of the sending unit. one to main pump hose, return line hose. but one has a cap blocking it shut. i was wondering if i could just run the ground wire directly to the ground wire inside the tank that goes to the pump? i would like some suggestions because working around all this gas and not being an expert on electronics could create a disaster. i have changed a filter and hose inside the tank on another volvo wagon in better shape so this is somewhat familiar. i guess i cant drink much on this job.

thanks again for the help, will
