Gasket Around Lock on Wagon Gate 900 1995

I was locking my wagon gate this weekend and noticed the rubber gasket around the lock was loose and coming off. It looks like it just dried up and cracked off. So now I have no rubber gasket.

Q: Is this a problem? Will water getting in this area be a problem or is it really just for show? Is this part easily replaced?
