wiring trouble!!!! 700 1985

While tracking down idle surging, I felt the wiring harness

on the air mass meter connector start to crumble-I think I'm

in trouble.Will a bad harness play hell with the idle?

Am I looking at a harness replacement? If so,what the best and cheapest

route to take?
