Starts cutting out at 2000 rpms, in any gear. 700 89

My 88B 740 (Swedish model with jetronic 2) won't rev over 2000 in any gear including neutral. It starts cutting out or bucking. After driving for a few minutes the idle speed goes up to 1200 rpms. I've checked the in-tank fuel pump and it's fine. Any ideas?
