I inherited an 89, 240 DL Wagon, with 373 gears this past January. Mileage was poor. Posted the Q and developed a twenty-six point checklist from the answers. Mileage has now increased to 17 city/30 Hwy/27overall. Did the test yesterday.

But I never did get around to replacing my NGK plugs (installed 3-00), with Bosch Platinum's. I never cleaned the injectors, O2 sensor, Temp sensor, or checked the pressure regulator. By comparison, our 91, 740 was getting poor mileage and after I put in the Bosch plats, it took off like a rocket and mileage returned to normal.

BTW, know anything about reasons for several cranks before starting [sometimes] or a very shaky engine on idle after starting [sometimes]?
