Well, I purchased this car new in 1987 from Smothers Volvo in San Jose, CA. It is a metallic blue 5sp DL. The exwife offered it to me for 2k recently; it is a bit more long in tooth right now. The car has 160k, the AC blow hard but appears to need a charge. Major issues I noted: two small rust holes in the rocker panel on the passenger side (front). I saw no evidence of rust in other spots but I did not look very hard.
The heater hose off the manifold is hanging loose; engine starts easy and runs strong (as can be expected for this little motor), clutch smooth/does not chatter, idles normally (smooth, occasional stumble). The trip odometer reset button is snapped off; cannot reset the odometer. The driver door handle (inside) is snapped of on the door and dangling. The strap that regulates how far the driver door opens (in the doorjamb) is snapped in two. Shocks appear to require replacement. One wheel is leaking and requires replacement. The driver seat is sitting kinda low on the right side; appears to need some sort of structural attention.
This car has rear ended two other cars minimum; cosmetic damage only nothing structural.
Hmmm...no that I've laid all this out maybe this is not so good. I basically thought that 1500 for this car and throw about 2k at it and you have a pretty nice car. The engine is original, oil changed regularly. How long before top ends typically?
regards,
carl
