765T suspension vs. 854T suspension 700 88-90

Is the suspension on the 765T softer than the suspension on the 854T? We currently have an 854T which I drive, and while I love the way it drives, I HATE the ride. For those of you who don't know, New England roads are among the worst in the US. Does a 765T ride smoother?
