Another OD question 200 82

My '82 245 with M46 tranny has a shot tranny (bearing noise) and a shot overdrive (bad o-rings; engages only when cold). I want to nurse this thing along for another month or so before I replace the tranny and overdrive. I have a Triumph TR-6 that has the same J-type overdrive as the Volvo, and the TR uses 90wt gear oil in the tranny/OD. If I were to fill my Volvo tranny with 90wt., would the added thickness allow the OD to build enough fluid pressure to engage, and also cushion the failing bearing a little?

TIA for any info.

Colin
