Rough Idle, Dimming Lights 200 1982

My car has for some time (6 months) been exhibiting a strange phenomenon - the idle is rough and the lights dim during every rough spot. Sometimes it sounds rhythmic. A friend told me it sounds like a generator problem, but I don't have enought experience to be sure. I know it's definitely not the fuel injectors - they're clean - or a valve problem, but other than that I have no idea. Help?
