Well, I spent last night installing my urethane torque rod bushings and new rear trailing arm bushings.
My original torque rods turned out to be pretty good in condition, but the rear trailing arm bushings were terrible.. I took a photo of them, once removed from the car (and a shot while still on the car)
Someone had wedged metal shims into them in a vain attempt to solve their wear problem. the metal bolt sleeve fell out on its own, with a chunck of rubber, and the metal shims all pushed out by hand as well, leaving an empty bushing sleeve on both sides of the car..
I'd say I solved my chattering clutch problem by 75%, but it still vibrates when engaging in 1st gear, and 2nd as well.
BUT.. the good news is that the car is MUCH quieter at the rear end. No more clunking when I torque it up, and no more gear noise at 2.5k rpm (it had this really low pitched resonation going on)
I have new shocks on order to complete the job.
Now onto the front end that needs two new tie rod ends and struts..
A never ending saga of things the previous owner never replaced..
I mirrored the website for the bushing tool at:
http://www.public.iastate.edu/~lhealey/volvotool/
just because some people emailed me that they couldn't get onto the other site.
I shall upload pics someday when they are developed to show you guys the trashed bushings..
