Manual Shifter getting sloppy! 700 87

Anyone replaced the the bushings, pins, coupling on their shift linkage? Parts available from Volvo only? Can I drop the rear of the trans. down to do the job or will it have to come out? Missed second gear in a little stop light encounter with a Chrysler 300!
