replace fuel guage sender 900 95

I have a 95 945 with 65k miles... 4 cylinder with a whacked out fuel gauge.... after I fill the tank of gas and driving about 40 miles it goes down to about 1/4 tank where the needle stays...pounding on the dash doesnt help..I suspect the sender.. Is the in tank sender/prepump a single assembly..????????The intank prepump seems fine...like to fix this without unecessary expense... where in the back of the wagon is the floor panel to accesss this???Any special hints or advice in doing this job??thanks guys..JOHN
