Brake light and "Whats that noise?" 200 86

Looking at another 245 for sale. Two things about it that I could use some "Brick Wisdom". One; the brake light on the dash stays lit. What is tied to that light? Brake sensor? Brakes on this car are great. Number 2: as I was putting the car into reverse I heard a clunk/vibration type of noise. Any ideas? Transmission, going forward, shifts fine.
