Don (well, or anyone who's had this problem) -
I seem to recall that you have (or had) a car that had some exhaust manifold stud problems... You drilled out the faulty stud(s), right? Would you please take a couple minutes and refresh my memory on exactly what you had to do?
I don't know if you've seen a couple posts I've put up today, but...
A chunk blew out of the exhaust gasket on the #1 cylinder, about 3/8" long or so... hot exhaust gas shooting forward/upward. This failure in the gasket was right next to the upper manifold stud.
I got the exhaust manifold off today, and seven of the studs came out just fine. However the eighth - the upper stud on the #1 cylinder - came out broken. I don't think I broke it - I didn't feel a snap, and it came out much easier than the others. Anyway, I now have about 1/4" - 5/16" of the stud in the head.
So... drilling? Easy out? New head? New engine? New car?
