OK, my clutch is not releasing. I tried adjusting it, but it either wouldn't release or it would adjust so much it wouldn't engage (it would slip under load). A background on the problem (might be helpful):
2 years ago when I rebuilt the engine the clutch would often not disengage and I got tired of this so I adjusted the clutch with the 2 adjusting nuts on the adjusting rod and the problem went away.
I put in a new (used) M41 transmission 4 months ago
a few days ago I was waiting at a long stop light with the clutch in and when the light turned green, the 1st to 2nd shift was hard. It was hard to shift for a few days until finally it wouldn't shift at all and I had to turn the engine off at every stop light to get the car in 1st, then restart the car.
I adjusted the clutch some more and the problem went away. For a day. Then I was driving it and every time I'd use the clutch it would release less and less until finally again I had to coax it home only in 1st.
I adjusted the clutch again and it seemed to work but the clutch was so far adjusted that it would slip under load. If I tried to adjust it less the clutch would not disengage.
I took the damn thing apart! I had to put new gaskets on my stupid leaking transmission anyways. But I took it apart and everything looked fine and the clutch wasn't sticking on the splines.
So what the heck is my problem here???? Thanks in advance
