More Fuel/Temp Guage Problems!! 200 86

1986 245 (has the electronic speedo)

The temp and fuel guage (shared cluster) will read "dead" - hangin' out at the bottom of the guages.

One rap to the dash, directly above the cluster and both guages usually rise to their proper places.

When they are working, they are accurate.

I am assuming that this may be a cracked solder scenario.

If anyone has a scematic of the back of the guage cluster, to show which solder connections may be at fault...

Also - I have a 1978 242 - the fuel guage always reads 1/4 tank high. Guess what - when you think there is 1/4 tank - you're empty.

I swapped guage clusters and it still reads high.

Any way to fix this without dropping the tank. I find the thin brass tube on the fuel pick-up gets mangled beyond repair.

Thanks in advance for your comments.
