Rear Speakers in 245 200 1986

A few weeks ago, someone posted a picture and description of their 245 which had a pair of 4" speakers in the rear, each mounted above the wheel wells, forward of the back seat such that they were over the shoulder of the passengers. This is a brilliant spot for speakers, and I'm trying to do a similar install myself. However, I'm looking for some implementation details.

What's the best route to run the wire for the speakers?

I'm thinking it looks easy to run it down the body cavity, following the wheel well, then across, under the door threshold, around the seatbelt cover and into the front seat, through the front door threshold and into the dash area. However, how do you get those black plastic door threshold pieces off without breaking them? They look like they're glued on. :(

Did you use the factory piece of fiber board?

Or did you cut a new piece out of MDF and re-upholster with the original vinyl? The original piece looks like it'll crumble the minute I cut into it.

Thanks a bunch!
