Alternator life expectancy? 200 85

All the guages went dead when my wife was driving home the other day. Of course everything was fine when I went out and looked at it. I already went through the fried alternator wire problem a couple of years ago and fixed them. Pulled the splash pan to have a look anyways, no sign of trouble. It got me to wondering about how long the brushes in the alternaor tend to last. I found lots of comments in Archives & FAQ about how easy they are to replace but none on life expectancy. My mileage is 215000Km(133000Mi).Thanks in advance for any comments.
