Yeah, it broke tonight about 2 miles from my house.
How do I know that it's the original?? I bought the car brand new off the dealer's lot in February, '86 and I know that the all of the clutch components are untouched.
I used to have a Fix Or Repair Daily that ate a cable every 20-30k. And the clutch on that POS was shot (disc worn down to the RIVETS!) at about 94K! Driven in the same manner that I drive my brick, and yet the 245's clutch has lasted almost twice as long and shows no sign of quitting anytime soon. M46 still shifts like new, too. The tempo had a nasty 1st-2nd gear "CRUNCH!" and a bad habit of popping out of 5th when I finally sold it at 114K.
The build quality and sheer ruggedness of these cars never ceases to amaze me...I've got the old cable sitting right here on my desk and it is one thick mofo! I'm sure that an OE replacement will cost me an arm and a leg, but if it lasts another 176K I won't complain...
