Got an emergency call from Susan last night. Seems that when she

took a trip downtown she began to smell gasoline and soon determined

that it was coming from inboard of the left rear wheel. She wisely

shut down and my wife went over, picked her up and took her home.

At 5:30 this morning I went over in the 122 wagon and picked her up and

we went and got her car and towed it to her house.

Seems the small 5/16" (8mm, Bartmanns!) hose between the pump and the

accumulator developed a 1/8" split in about the middle, facing back.

Amazing how much gas it could put out, as we noticed when she backed

her car onto our heavy wooden ramps. We got it fixed and she was only

a couple minutes late to work (7:30). In fact it took me a lot longer

to get the undercoating and dirt off me than to replace the hose.

Question:

WHY do they insist on undercoating an area you can be SURE will get

wet with gasoline if there is a fuel leak?
