I agree that the timing belt needs to be changed 50k, but am curious about this no start condition. A question. '81 244 is carburated? I didn't know of any carbed '81 240s if they aren't Canadian.
If injected, or maybe even if carbed, you may have a vacuum line problem. K Jet is littered with rubber hoses that can rot, break, or just wiggle off and let extra unmetered air into your intake system and skew the ratio of fuel to air in the combustion chamber, causing a no start condition. A good visual check of all hoses and fittings may find your culprit.
Going way out on a limb- was the brake pedal always spongy in this car? Mine was, and when you really mashed the brake pedal when the car was cold the engine idle dropped and got choppy, I believe because the vacuum booster stole air from the fuel injection system. Like I said, out on a limb.
