What goes on in a coil? Okay, I kinda know, but...
There are two terminals. One receives power when the ignition switch is on. What signal goes out the other terminal to (in my case) the points? I think this is the same terminal that drives the tach, if I had one. So I'm assuming it is a pulsed output. Or am I wrong?
I really need a basic primer on this. What I am trying to ascertain is if the side that feeds the points would provide a suitable output with which to trigger a relay. My '73 has been converted to a Weber, fed by a low-pressure electric fuel pump. With the current wiring, the fuel pump runs whenever the ignition switch is in the #2 position.
This seems like a bad idea to me. I'd rather the fuel pump ran only when the car was running! But I have no idea what to use as a relay trigger that would only be hot when the engine is actually running.
Is anyone else here running an electric fuel pump with a carb? What did YOU do?
TIA,
Evan
