Urgent help needed on switching torque converters...(Can I use a '90 240 TC on a '89 740 16 valve?) 700 1989

In trying to reinstall the transmission on my 1989 740 GLE 16 valve my friend and I managed to break the gear in the pump because we did not have the torque converter seated properly. We took the bellhousing off a 1990 240 transmission and bolted it onto the AW-72 from my 16 valve. After that we found out that the input shaft on the 240 bellhousing/pump did not match the 16 valve's torque converter. The 240 torque converter looks like it is smaller in diameter-so that would mean a higher stall speed correct? But what does this mean for the car? Will it launch faster? While not my original intention it certainly wouldn't hurt. Will this work? We are trying to decide what the best solution is-use this setup or buy another transmission or bellhousing...any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Matthew C. Hall
