Buns Warmer Working Great With Switch Off In Summer! 700 1989

Other than the few times I have hit the switch during cleaning or fumbling for the car phone, have not used the seat heaters in my 740 since I purchased 4 months ago & then it was just to test them out.

Have not noticed these symptons before....of course with Volvo's that's how things usually go.

Car had been just fine since repairs last week. Drove 30 odd miles today to office, no probs. Came out in driving rain, got soaked walking to car, started up & let the defrost run for a few minutes before heading out on the parking lot known as Route 128 outside of Boston, MA.

Moving along at a brisk 30 MPH when I noticed that my clothes seemed to be drying rather quick & my seat & back were warm. OK, looked down to expect to see that I had bumped the heater switch, not so. Worked the switch back & forth a few times, no change. Enjoyed the warm seat drying my clothes until I could get off the highway & unplug the connector under the seat.

Whats the deal?? Read the FAQ...see switch issue maybe, relay? T-stat?

The only thing that I could think of would be a closed circuit via switch (something melt & fuse together maybe?). I can see the switch failing open (no operation), but closed (this is a normally open circuit, correct?).

For now, the seats disconnected. Would like to find the problem & repair if possible. Any advice would be appreciated. (Still working without books, I know!)

Regards,

Mike
