wacky radio antenna connector 200 87

I pulled out my stock Volvo stereo casette unit out of my 87 240DL yesterday, and as I was disconnecting wires, I noticed that the coaxial lead for the antenna has an unusually small connector on it, not the standard one I've seen that is about 1/4" diameter on the outer edge. At least I assume it's the antenna lead. What's the deal with this?

There also seemed to be a standard antenna connector on the back of the unit, but it had a plastic cap over it and was attached to nothing.

If this thin connector is the antenna, does anybody make an adapter to allow attachment to a standard female that's on most radios?

Thanks for you help guys.
