Finally fixed my irregular idle, sweet smell of success! 200 1992

I love to read about problems that are fixed. Now it is my turn.

For many months I have been perstering you guys with possible solutions to improve the forever irregular idling of my 92 240 B200F M47.

Tested, changed and cleaned everthing (without buying expensive new parts though) and altough the gerneral running condition improved it never got steady, until now that is..

I already noticed for a while that at idle my lights were flickering a bit, but battery light never came on and battery was charging ok. So on my ongoing general maintenance list I added to check out the alternator. This I did last weekend and found that voltage regulator was of Lucas-type and the bushings were running thin. The PO must have changed it before, Lucas is not the standard fit on a Bosch alternator.

Bought a Bosch voltage regulator for $30 fitted it (10 min in-situ job) and oh-my what a nice and steady voltage and most beautiful idle ever!

Turns out the ECU (or ignition) do not like voltage fluctuations too much.

Many thanks to all who helped me over the last months,

reg,
