I've got a 740 turbo that chewed up its transmission. The overdrive was intermittent for months until finally reverse only worked when the car was cold. I bit the bullet and got a transmission & OD from a wrecker and put it in yesterday. With everything back together I ran the car up on jackstands. Every gear worked fine; then I put the car back on the ground. With the engine running it won't go into any gear. Reverse just grinds, the other forward gears don't make noise, but the gear lever won't move out of neutral.
It's a hydraulic clutch. I noticed when I took the slave cylinder off the operating rod migrated fully out. On reinstallation I pushed it back in and clipped the cylinder in place. I've bled it repeatedly now and am not seeing any bubbles. It seems to move, but I'm not sure how much movement is necessary for full actuation. Does anyone know offhand how much the slave cylinder should move?
