My 740 Turbo has 211k miles and is using a quart of Mobil1 every 1000 miles. The car seems to use this much only when I have the car fully loaded and travel on the hilly interstates of New Mexico and Colorado, often cruising at 80 to 85 mph. I don't have any oil leaks and the exhaust doesn't show any noticeable smoke although the inside of the tailpipe is black and sooty. I've recently replaced the head gasket and the valves looked fine so I did not replace valve guides and seals. I haven't had a cylinder leak down test done either.
Is it worth replacing the rings and if so, can I pull the pistons out from the bottom of the block so I dont have to redo the head work? Should I consider replacing the con-rod bearings and main journal bearing / front and rear seals while there also?
