Why aren't my gauges working 700 1984

Please help my fuel and temperature guages work only sparatically. Mostly when I first start my car up in the morning they work, and then they seem to disappear leaving me not knowing how much fuel or what's the temperature of my vehicle. I have a 1984 760 GLE Turbo Diesel.
