Do you really have to remove the shifter? 200 1991

Pulling an engine and trans with the shifter attached to the transmission is no big deal. I'm speaking of 5-speed 240s. This is because you slide the whole engine/trans combination out of the car at the same time.

Here's the question, if anyone's tried this: Can you theoretically yank the transmission with the shifter attached , but without pulling the engine at the same time?

Get the picture? I don't wanna pull the engine on this specific car for several reasons.
