Need help with cross-country Volvo buying adventure 700 ALL

Lets just say hypothetically that you had the opportunity to buy a Volvo 760 Turbo from 3000 miles away which is owned by someone who knows nothing about car repair. This said person was driving the car on a daily basis, and one day it just shut off, and wouldn't restart. This person wants to unload the car for a VERY reasonable price (which you would never see in your home state for such a vehicle), but may sell it to somebody else if you don't act soon. 760s are hard to come by where you live, and this could be a mistake if the opportunity is passed up. You have a relative who lives in the city of the dead car, who could house it for a short while.

The plan: You'll fly out and buy the car, and have it towed across town to your relative's house. You'll then spend whatever part of the weekend necessary to fix the car, then drive it back across the country. Due to work and school, the entire timespan of this operation is to occur between a thursday afternoon until the next monday evening.

The question: What parts would I want to bring with me to do this? I'm assuming smaller ones would be ballast resistors, radio supression relay, and possibly a timing belt. What else would I bring? I'm planning on flying with 4 days clothes and a bunch of tools if this goes down.

Alternative plan: Buy car long distance, and have it sent on a shipping service which is capable of picking up dead cars. How much would this cost? Has anyone done this before?

Any other ideas? Thanks a lot for the help. The window on this is very short, and I've been looking for a turbo for a while now.
