Hello,
Starting to reassemble a 1965 122 project car. Taking over from another so the car is mostly in pieces. New to 122's and restoration so the going is slow at this point.
Beginning to run into the problem of the car being "mostly there". Will start to work on a system to find that the gasket set is missing something or that a brace or bit of hardware isn't around. Luckily I'm in portland so there are resources, but never when you need it. I'm sure a lot of you know that tune.
So one of the things I've come across is the heat reflector that mounts between the carbs and the manifold isn't around. It seems that this may have been only on the later models, but I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether this is worth hunting down. I have a gut feeling that with the float bowls only a few inches above the exhaust manifold there is a chance of too much heat getting to the fuel. Hence the heat shield.
Also, anyone out there have a better version of the wiring schem. posted than what is in the Haynes manual? I'm looking to enlarge and duplicate so I can isolate individual circuits as I re-wire everything.
Wouldn't mind hearing from anyone else that has "started from scratch". All is do-able but anything that would save me some head-scratching time is a good thing. Not even looking for tips specifically, just stories.
Once you have been working on something for a while you forget that what is now second nature, at one time seemed foreign. At least thats what I have found as a professional furnituremaker.
Thanks for any replies,
-Mario
