Rear axle ratios 200 83-84

I am wondering if the rear axles from an 83' wagon with an automatic and overdrive can be changed with the rear axle from and 84' with a standard shift 4-speed with overdrive? The axle on the auto 83' is marked 3.73 but the marking on the 84' is unreadable. Is there a big difference between the rear ends used in automatics and those in standard shift models? So who knows his stuff?
