More dyno testing results. (long).. 120-130 67

The 122 and I went back to the dyno friday for some more testing.

Baseline from before was 103.3 hp and about 112 ft./lbs of torque. IPD VV71 cam, IPD header, 2.25" exhaust.

Changes this time were the KG Trimning 4-2-1 header (stage II). That yielded approximately 1 hp at peak, however, there was a 5ft/lb increase in torque. The area 'under the curve' was much greater as well. where the torque curve was flat as kansas from 2500-5k..now it climbs about 5ft lbs after 3500 and levels off at 5500.

Took off the adj. fuel pressure regulator.....and guess what? saw another 1 hp increase at nearly every rpm, with less drop off after peak.

Then I started playing with the crane 3000 system (essentially the same as the 700 that IPD sells, but doesn't require a ballast resistor). It gained me no hp over brand new, properly adjusted points. However, as many of you know..it gives a great idle and appears less prone to occasional burps and missfires. Idle smells better too.

that elec. facet fuel pump lasted another 100 miles before pooping out on my last autocross run today. threw the stock mech. one back in, which is leaking gas and oil. Looks like I need to find another mech one and see what that gets me. something doesn't seem right with that elec. pump. I'm thinking it wasn't putting out its full share.

Question: I assume the pierburg pumps are all that is available now? I've seen a few cars with the glass-topped pumps..that pegs the 'cool' meter.

At the autocross, I was now on 225/50/15 Kumho V700's (race tires)...they changed the handling from oversteer to understeer. where I thought I needed more front bar with the Hoosier Vintage TD (bias ply, vintage-legal race tires)..now I think I need more rear bar (actually, now I need A rear bar)..have to call IPD and see if I can buy just a rear. Anyway, ended up 3 out of 6, behind a turbocharged Nissan 240sx (too much hp) and a Honda CRX (good handling). The car won't compete very well in SCCA's Street Mod class at a national level, but it is fun.
