Temp. Gauge Problem? 200 1989

My temperature gauge started to act a little funny a few days ago. It got down to about 47 degrees here in Florida. As I drove a mile down the road in the "cold," I noticed my temp gauge didn't move. I pulled off to the side and restarted the car. Still nothing.

Finally about 80 miles into my 160 mile trip, it moved to between a 7 and 8 o'clock position and remained there throughout the trip.

Recently I had my water pump, thermostat, and coolant replaced. Would this have caused the temperature gauge not to act right, or is it more of a dirty connection or bad temp. compensation board problem?

Today, my temperature gauge worked right as I started my car, and it stayed a little lower than an 8 o'clock position.

I have a spare temp board, but before I rip apart my dash to replace it, I thought I would post here first.

Thanks,

Eric Staufer
