Be wary of some lube shops
My daughter brought her car to Jiffy Lube on Middlesex Street in Lowell MA because she did not have time to make an appointment with her dealer.
The next time (weekly) she checked her fluids, she found that the lock on the transmission dip stick had been bent so that it would not lock. Due to the geometry and the nature of the lock and tube, I cannot be repair it without installing a new dipstick tube. I called the shop and the person who answered the phone denied that anyone there would bend the lock. The next day I called and asked for the manager, the manager apologized, although he did not try to deny that his employee had bent the lock.
A year later, we purchased another used 740 that had several Jiffy Lube receipts in the maintenance records. The shop in question was about 15 miles from Lowell.
Interestingly enough, that car's transmission dipstick lock was BENT OUT OF THE WAY ALSO!
I think that this lock is on the tube because it is necessary for some reason.
Then there is the garage that crushed the front drains on my rocker panels, but that's another story.
