back-up/ignition inhibitor switch 120-130

I have a '68 122 wagon with the BW35 auto transmission. There is a switch on the trany which is supposed to activate the back-up lights, and cut out the ignition switch unless you are in "Park". It has never worked (no back-up lights, and free to start in any gear!) The Haynes manual info is not helpful-ie it claims there are 2 narrow & 2 broad blade terminals-they are all the same (although numbered 1-4)

Anyone have real world experience with this switch?
