Flame trap question 200 1987

Bricksters,
I recently cleaned the flame trap on my 245. After finding out that it is easiest to access the flame trap by removing the distributor cap and coming in from the front,I tried to run a coat hanger down into the canister that the flame trap tube connects to clean it out and found that the hanger would only go in about two inches or so and then hit something and stop. Is this normal, or is it blocked? I have been chasing some nagging oil leaks.
