Rattle after installing Bilstein shocks 200 1992

My Boge shocks were 9 years old so I replaced them with Bilstein monotube shocks. Immediately a loud rattle appeared when going over even the smallest bumps. Couldn't find the source. Replace Bilsteins with cheap Gabriels and noise disappeared. Had Bilstein Co. exchange monotube for dual tubes -figured less stiff shocks would eliminate noise. Car still rattles. Any ideas on what's causing rattle and how to eliminate?
